Minister Announces $112m for RIE2030 to Boost Built Environment Innovation

Minister for National Development Mr Chee Hong Tat announced an additional $112 million over the next five years under the Research, Innovation & Enterprise 2030 (RIE2030) tranche for the Cities of Tomorrow R&D Programme. This funding is intended to support innovation in the built environment sector, focusing on safer and more productive demolition, smarter building maintenance, decarbonisation, and turning research into real-world solutions. The initiative reflects the government's commitment to investing in innovation and partnering with the industry to translate good ideas into practical solutions.

The RIE2030 programme will focus on four key areas: safer and more productive demolition, smarter building maintenance, decarbonising the built environment, and accelerating the adoption of research into real-world applications. These efforts align with Singapore's goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The government also plans to explore underground development to optimise land use and support long-term sustainability goals.

The first grant call for RIE2030 is expected to be launched later this year, with more details to be shared soon. The initiative aims to encourage collaboration between the public and private sectors to co-develop new solutions and adopt promising innovations in construction projects.
